Title: LOVE REGARDLESSÂ
Starring: Zynnell Zuh, Gbenga Titiloye, Yvonne Okyere, Paulina Oduro, Kweku Elliot, Helen Asante
Synopsis: A beautiful woman with aspirations to be a singer falls for an older man, completely aware that he’s her best friend’s father.
Ivory (Zynnell Zuh) is a young woman that had been preparing for stardom as a singer. It seemed that the route to fame was to sleep her way to the top but she refused to sacrifice her integrity. Ivory wasn’t earning a living as a singer so she took a temporary office job working for Peter, her best friend’s father.
It was love at first sight for Peter (Gbenga Titiloye) but there were a few hindrances. He was Ivory’s boss, he was old enough to be her father, and she was also the best friend of his daughter.
At first, Ivory was reluctant to get involved with him under the circumstances but he won her over with his sincerity. They had a great rapport and secretly dated but conflict set in when Peter’s daughter caught them together and tragedy struck shortly after.
Let’s Talk. This is a younger woman/older guy love story told against the backdrop of the route to success as a recording artist. The message here is to love regardless. Simple.
This is a movie with meaning as it alluded to discrimination. Some women may have instantly passed on an older guy without giving it a second thought but the beauty is that Ivory looked beyond the exterior and found the man of her dreams. Conflict ensued because the love of her life was also her best friend’s father, which caused an awkward situation.
The movie wasn’t loaded with suspense or twists and turns. It was a simple story filled with tender moments and poetic dialogue. The relationship between Ivory and Peter was developed slowly and we got to share in how they connected. As they got to know each other, we got to know them.
One of the things that made the story work was the fact that Peter’s ex-wife wasn’t a figment of our imagination and he wasn’t just conveniently available. His ex-wife was bought into the mix and the audience was able to see and understand why their relationship failed, thus making the relationship between Ivory and Peter more acceptable.
By the end of the movie, Ivory got her wish as a recording artist and although it may have come off as a little fantastical, the movie does require a “happily ever after†ending following an ill-fated blow to the story.
The question becomes whether a younger man would date an older woman? Hmm… The movie also tackles the tough decision of following your dreams versus playing it safe with a regular job.
Performances were pretty good. Zynnell Zuh was a graceful leading lady while Gbenga Titiloye exuded such sincerity that I would have dated him too.
Honestly, “Love Regardless†does have some aspect of predictability. It’s not necessarily “must see†status but I enjoyed it. The music and romance made it charming enough to RECOMMEND
