Sienna Miller—formerly the leader of the early aughts boho craze—has recently gone a more minimalist route with her personal style. And judging by this year’s Met Gala look, clearly she’s committed to pursuing this new direction in her wardrobe. “When we first sat down for coffee together, Sienna kept talking about pants,†explained designer Thakoon Panichgul, who designed the British actress’s outfit. “I’ve never done pants for the Met before, so I was game,†said Miller. “The Met is really a place where you can be bold and experimental with fashion.â€
The resulting design—a crimson embellished jacket and trouser suit—seemed a perfect combo for the star. “I really wanted to use the fringe sequin fabric that I had used in the fall 2015 show in navy,†said Panichgul. “Doing it in red was just enough of a nod to traditional Chinese culture.†Paired with bespoke jewelry from Jacob & Co., simple stilettos, and a coordinating clutch, and the overall effect was what Panichgul described as “something chic, with a seventies feel.†And Miller’s sparkling pants had legs beyond the Met Gala red carpet. “It’s much more fun to dance in a sequin trouser suit than a ball gown,†said Miller, who took her look from the museum straight to the after-party. It just goes to show, sometimes one look can make for double the fun.
